South Jersey has seen the first sign of FEMA’s assistance over the weekend.

On Saturday morning the first of the temporary housing units from FEMA arrived in Eatontown, according to Manasquan-Belmar Patch. The 2-bedroom unit is 12’ x 46’ and is fully furnished with appliances, kitchen, furniture, and other household essentials.

The first of 50 housing units that will be distributed to the families affected by Hurricane Sandy, was installed at Woodlawn Village a mobile home park just off of Route 35. The housing unit was originally located at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson prior to it’s installment in Eatontown.

According to NJ.com FEMA has disbursed $55 million in housing assistance since Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey. About 20,000 applications for housing assistance received by FEMA were from Monmouth County. Out of the 20,000 about 9,800 people were eligible.

FEMA Public Affairs Officer Brett Hansard told Manasquan-Belmar Patch that applicants have asked for the temporary homes to be installed closer to their homes damaged by the storm. However the units can only by placed in an area that is not a flood plain.

Recently about 45 housing units in Fort Monmouth are being used by storm victims according to NJ.com.
