The all-too-soon- obituary for 6-year-old Jack Pinto, one of the victims of the Newtown tragedy on Friday, read that the young man liked to participate in a wide variety of sports.

Pinto was a member of the Newtown Youth Wrestling Association. The group decided to remain part of a youth wrestling tournament at Passaic High School on Sunday, calling it the first step toward healing.

The Newtown team’s coaches requested that tournament organizers not announce their presence, saying that they just wanted the kids to be treated like any other team.

Tournament director, Pete Casale said, according to NorthJersey.com, “They said they just want the kids to be treated normally.”

According to Minuteman News Center, about a dozen of Pinto’s teammates wrestled in the tournament on Sunday. The Association summarized its experience on Twitter, writing, “Know what we found? Hugs and ham/egg/cheese sandwiches.”

Pinto had been a big fan of the New York Giants and wide receiver Victor Cruz.

Cruz played Sunday’s game against Atlanta with the words "Jack Pinto 'My Hero'" written on his cleats and "Jack Pinto 'This One is 4 U'" on his gloves in honor of the young man, according to ESPN New York.

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said, "To have this happen, it's almost beyond explanation. The senseless killing ... it's very difficult to get past the senseless killing of children."

According to the Connecticut Post, the Pinto family said in Jack’s obituary, “Jack will forever be remembered for the immeasurable joy he brought to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, a joy whose wide reach belied his six short years.”
